On May 3, 4, and 17 at 20:00, Iliauni Theatre is preparing for its fifth premiere. The play “Soap Opus” by Davit Gabunia will be staged in the theatre’s mirror hall. The performance is part of the master’s program “The Art of Live Theatre: Directing and Acting” at Ilia State University. The director of the play is the head of the program, Ioane (Vano) Khutsishvili, and the story of the five main female characters will be brought to life by the students of the same MA program.

Germany won the Second World War. The Third Reich dominates the entire world. Georgia, like the rest of Europe, is filled with concentration camps. In one of them, in Abastumani, Ketevan, Nestani, Salome, and Medea are imprisoned. Their duty is to reproduce the pure Aryan race and bear children for the “Fatherland.”

Due to the limited space in the hall, only 33 people will be able to attend each performance. By the director’s decision, the audience will share the same space with the actors, immersing them directly into this heavy and tragic alternative reality.
