On October 1st and 2nd at 20:00, Iliauni Theatre will present the second premiere of its sixteenth season.

The play is titled “Miss Julie”, written by August Strindberg, and directed by Eva Gvritishvili, a graduate of our master’s program “The Art of Live Theatre: Directing and Acting.”

This is a naturalistic play by the Swedish playwright, set on a single summer night in a Swedish estate. On Midsummer’s Eve, when social norms are momentarily loosened, Julie, the daughter of a count, becomes entangled in a forbidden relationship with Jean, a servant of lower social status.

This tense drama explores the conflict between social classes, power, gender, and personal freedom. The psychological games between the characters gradually escalate into an emotional and moral crisis, ultimately leading to an inevitable and tragic end.

Strindberg examines human nature, the structures of social order, and individual responsibility—questions that remain strikingly relevant today.

The production was made possible with the financial support of Tbilisi City Hall.
