February 14 at 20:00 Iliauni Theatre will present a second premiere of its 10th theatre season.
On St. Valentine’s Day the Theatre will present one of the most tragic love stories of the antiquity. “Oedipus and Jocaste” is a modern Georgian interpretation of the well known myth written by Giorgi Maisuradze.
Main characters of the performance staged by Elene Matskhonashvili are marionettes. Marionettes enact the love story that develops in parallel with Sophocles tragedy “Oedipus Rex” and creates a version completely different from the classical text. Here Jocaste is a very active character and yet the story, as it is always the case with the classics, resounds with as much eloquence as in Ancient Greece centuries ago.
Marionettes’ designers that worked with Elene Matskhonashvili on the play by Georgian philosopher Giorgi Maisuradze created a completely enchanting performance.
It is a first occasion for Iliauni Theatre to work on the marionette performance and therefore, awaits the audience’s reaction with a special interest.
